Thoroughly disappointed with this one.more I don't think so many people (especially fathers of the girls) would willingly rape or support the rape of kids for the sake of creating babies. Almost all of the male adults in this town are happily complicit, and though I consider myself a cynic I don't buy it. Honestly I was revolted by this story and didn't feel it was cleverly done at all. You don't get any insight on them after they are kidnapped and they feel very much like the "women in refrigerators trope." They're not really treated like fleshed out characters, just victims and catalysts for the male characters. The girls in question are mostly portrayed as frail victims who are assaulted purely for shock value. I'm going to spoil the story: the children are trafficked to pedophiles and regularly raped and impregnated in order to counter the effects of an event that left the residents of the town sterile. The world building and characters were interesting but the story revolves around a secret about a bunch of young girls (children, really) who go missing and are never heard from again. It's revered by fans of the subreddit and is regularly referred to as one of the best NoSleep stories, akin to Penpal by 1000vultures, which is my all time favourite scary story. I heard it through the NoSleep Podcast and was really looking forward to it.
